Long Island isn't like other parts of New York and of course Long Island is so long it actually has many parts that's not like each other. I'm from the north shore on the eastern side, near where the "north fork" starts. It was once a land of potato, sod and duck farms. We still have a small duck farm on the north fork, but now we also have a lot of horses and a bison farm. Vineyards are everywhere and wineries are common. We even have a place that makes potato vodka (and other spirits).
