Hi My name is Betty, I was born and reared in Concord NC, use to be a little rural community like Mayberry sort of but I moved away in 2000 to Virginia and have recently moved back. I am very disapointed in the changes. Stores boarded shut, for sale signs in yards every where areas use to be nice and genuine country looks like the dump. The democrats pretty much Raped and Pillaged this great state it's so sad. I am hoping our new Gov will make a difference and give us back our state.
I am Unafiliated also I love my country more than a party, skin color doesn't matter to me as much as the heart and character, not many on either side seem to have a lot of that nowadays. Im old school and believe you pay your bills before you rack up anymore but don't many believe in that either not in DC. My father use to be a Democrat till JFK was killed, I remember him saying then Johnson had him killed and he never voted for another Democrat either so My voting life has been sent as a Republican until the last 6 years. It seems they have lost the will to fight, Oh for another "Reagan"
Well I gave you my money now do what you need to do, I knew when I ask my Dad why are they taking social security out of my first paycheck "he said so I'd have a little money to help out when I retire" I disagreed with him then and said let me save my own money..if they had I would be sitting pretty with money saved and compounded interest. If young people are smart if the JOB Market ever comes back, it would serve them well if they could opt out of SS and save their own money.
I knew then for some reason it wouldn't be there for me when I retired, sad part is I was RIGHT!!!
Welcome, Betty Lou, from another North Carolinian! Well, I guess not really a true North Carolinian; although I was born at Cherry Pt Marine Corps base, my parents moved back to New York when I was just about 2 weeks old. :) I appreciate your feelings about politics, race and Social Security -- good for you for reconizing so young what a poor idea it is. These days, 401k (self-saving for retirement, sometimes with some contribution from the employer) seems to be the way retirement funding is going.
