Random Thoughts And Thirty Second Sound-bites
Permalink

What follows is an inconsequential collection of things I something think. They may be thought of as my attitude about things that we see and hear on a day-to-day basis which I express in bumper sticker philosophy, or at best, thirty-second-sound-bites. Some may be slightly humorous but none likely to produce a belly laugh.  Shallow thoughts mostly, but a few which if scratched just a little reveal an undercurrent of deeper thinking. Perhaps you will find some of them amusing or even thought provoking. Or perhaps not.

Socialism is a process by which the government takes money from one and gives to another. Theft is a similar process in which the thieves cuts out the middleman and keep the money for themselves. I think I prefer the latter who are at least intellectually honest in their craft, if not in their deeds.

Economic democracy results in free-market capitalism. Political democracy results in socialism.

If the guns Eric Holder provides to members of drug cartels makes you feel safe but the gun in your home makes you feel unsafe then you are probably a liberal.

Political activists, mostly liberals, tell us that the right to vote, which tens of thousands of American Servicemen have died to protect isn’t worth the trouble it takes to get a photo-Id card.

Why is it a not a baby if the pregnant female is going to abort it-- but is a baby if she is going to keep it?

If  the sea level is raising faster than you can move out of the way then it’s probably not because of a melting iceberg.

The warmth of the tropics is a great source of attraction for vacationers but an increase in temperature by a few degrees in any other part of the world would be disastrous.

Mitt Romney pays, on average, $8000 dollars a day in federal income tax. But only 365 days a year.  Dang cheapskate.

Multiply the number of dependents that you claim on your Form 1040 by $12,000.  The result is your portion the federal budget last year. If you didn’t pay that much then who paid it for you? I wish I knew who paid mine so that I could at least thank them.

If getting a traffic ticket makes us drive safer then why don’t auto insurance companies give us safe-driver discounts when we get tickets.

Why does every news reporter knows what homophobia is, but none of them know what Christophobia is.

MSNBC news stories are based on actual events and real people. Only the details are altered to reflect the views of the producers and to project their political and social agendas.

If you find it easy to understand how gun-control legislation will decrease violence but have a hard time understanding how camera-control legislation will decrease child pornography, then you are probably a liberal.

Because of the Fiscal Cliff Deal the big companies and wealthy individuals are going to have to pay more federal taxes. Not wanting to pick up the tax for them by paying higher prices for their products I went shopping for items not made by big companies or by companies owned by rich people. Couldn’t find any.

Whether a nurse has an abortion or not is her choice. Whether she gets a vaccination or not is her employer’s choice.

The Earth has warmed up enough to thaw the ice-age and dry up several seas but a few more degrees of warming will destroy it.

The Ad Council says that one of every six children face hunger every day. I am surprised the number is so low. Seems to me that most kids face hunger every day. And they do very well staring it down over a Big-Mac, large fries and a super-gulp.

If all the creatures, great and small, were not created--then why do we call them creatures?  If all the creatures, great and small, have evolved then why don’t we call them ‘evolutures’?

If you understand that when the Big Oil Companies have to pay more for a barrel of gas, they charge more per gallon at the pumps, but find it difficult to understand that when Big Oil Companies have to pay more to the federal government they will charge more per gallon at the pumps—then you are probably a liberal.

Karl Marx articulated the economic philosophy of “From each according to ability and to each according to need.” Planation slave owners of the Old South put it into practice.

What if the amount you could collect for damages from whom ever is at fault in a vehicle accident is limited by the amount of liability insurance you have to protect them if you had been at fault? Would you carry more liability insurance?

All food products are “natural”. Except Manna From Heaven. It’s Supernatural. It’s also very hard to find now-days.

In the United States in 2011, 323 people were killed by rifles of all types. Only 496 were killed by hammers and clubs. If the NRA blocks Senator Feinstein’s ban on so-called assault rifles I wonder if she’ll switch to banning hammers. I don’t know of any right-wing group dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear hammers so she might do better there.

Are control-freaks born that way or do they learn it from the government?

Could the cause of  global-warming be because over fifty percent of all Baby-boomers are having hot-flashes?

Charles Darwin titled his first book on the theory of evolution, “Origins of Species”. His second, “The Descent Of Man”.  He at least  got his books in the right order.

If Polar Bears become extinct I don’t think I my grandchildren will miss them anymore than I miss the  Saber-tooth Tiger. I don’t know anyone who has seen a Saber-tooth Tiger.  I don’t miss them.

If the unborn do not have the right to life then future generations which are now unborn do not have the right to clean air and water. Or rainforests. We do not have to preserve anything for them.

In his book, “ Population Bomb”, Paul Ehrlich advocates that everybody stop having babies so we can save the planet for future generations.

According to the experts a piece of asphalt shingle will last  a hundred thousand years in a land fill. But only twenty-five years on my roof.

The theory of gun-control postulates that legislative action against good people will affect the behavior of bad people.  It’s a theory that’s well understood only by liberals.

Atheists want everybody to believe as they do. But they’re non-believers.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer if the quality of being poor is measured by its proportional relationship to being rich.  If the quality of being poor is measured by standard of living then the poor have been getting richer while the rich remain largely static.

By the law of gravity, all things roll downhill. Taxes are no exception. They may begin at the top but they always end up at the bottom.

Thou Shalt Not Covet. Except the wealth of the rich.

Thou Shalt not steal. Except from the rich.

Laws are enacted by Legislators and are intended by them to be consistent with the best interest of the citizenry. Legislators are directly accountable to the voters.  Regulations are adopted by agency and department Bureaucrats and are intended by them to be consistent with the Bureaucrat’s view of the mission statement of their agency their or department. Bureaucrats are not directly accountable to the voters. I see a problem here.

Not all control-freaks become bureaucrats but all bureaucrats become control-freaks. Or so it seems.

Gun-control legislation does not control guns. It controls people. The wrong people.

Can the wealthy apply for protection against discrimination because they are members of a minority economic class?

Near the end of my Senior year in high school I began applying for work at various industrial plants and businesses. I always applied at the Personnel Office.  The last time I applied for a job it was at the Human Resources Department. Is a human resource the same as a person?  Or does one have less value than the other?

God-given Rights. Civil Rights. Human Rights. Is what we call our rights all that is being changed—or is our understanding of them being changed as well?

There are so many species of life, and many breeds within each specie, and variety within every breed. Why did God Create such diversity of life? Probably because He could.

If the top-ten-percent of American taxpayers just left the county the 70% of the federal income tax revenues that they provide would have to be replaced by those still left on the tax rolls. Which causes me to wonder, how wise is it to run the budget up so high that if there were no rich people to pay it, people of ordinary means would be unable to.

If or when medical science is able to eradicate all diseases known to cause the death of humans, then the number one cause of death will be “Unknown Causes”.  Accidental, would probably be second on the list. Followed by suicide, homicide, and war—but maybe not in that order. Abortion would be very near the top of the list, but they’re not counted.

A society which has a proper respect for human dignity will not attempt to render it impossible for me to commit a wrong—thereby reducing me to the status of an animal lacking freewill—but will instead render just punishment for the wrongful acts I commit, thereby leaving me as God made me—with the freewill to choose; and punishable for my bad choices.
