Two Easy Dips: Hummus and Guacamole

Hummus

Ingredients:
  • Canned or fresh chick peas (aka garbonzo beans)
  • Various seasonings to taste
Preparation:
  • Cook chick peas for several minutes, until soft; can be boiled, steamed or microwaved
  • Mash cooked chick peas into a paste with consistency you most enjoy (I like mine somewhat chunky)
  • Add seasonings to taste; I recommend:
tahini sauce (actually, I don't use it because it may contribute to kidney stones, being very high in oxalates)
paprika
garlic or garlic powder
onion or onion powder
cayenne pepper and/ or some variety of "hot sauce"
lemon juice
Refrigerate leftovers

Guacamole

Ingredients:
  • Ripe (dark olive color, soft to the touch) avocado
  • Various seasonings to taste
Preparation:
  • Remove pits from avocados and scoop meat from shell
  • Mash into a paste with consistency you most enjoy (I like mine somewhat chunky)
  • Add seasonings to taste; I recommend:
garlic or garlic powder
onion or onion powder
cayenne pepper and/ or some variety of "hot sauce"
lemon juice
Refrigerate leftovers

Hummus: If you don't use tahini sauce, for consistency I have found that unflavored yogurt works reasonably well.
