Alternative Therapies For Cancer

This has been a tough year for my family. My 81 year-old mom was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer in March 2011. My father passed away in December. My youngest brother was diagnosed with Stage IV Grade IV renal cell carcinoma.  Mom is doing well on chemotherapy. The first combination of drugs quit in August but there are a few more choices to go and her chances of living a bit longer are pretty good.  My brother, however had some bad news this week.  His cancer is an aggressive kidney cancer.  The cells have sarcomatoid features. Apparently there haven't been many studies or trials done by the pharmaceutical companies relative to this type of cancer.  He can try this or that but the prognosis for long-term survival is grim. So, in light of all that my four sisters, elder brother and I began to look at alternative therapies.  We came upon the Gerson Therapy, a cure of many physical illnesses based on nutrition.  Dr. Max Gerson was the genius behind this and had many successes in his lifetime and beyond that.  His daughter, Charlotte continues his work even as she is now in her ninetieth year.  We are hoping to get my brother into the clinic (outside of the US) where this therapy is conducted under the observation and guidance of doctors and nurses that have migrated from the traditional philosphy to this alternative.  My question is, how can we ignore things like this useful therapy in our country?  How can we not honor and study the work of medical geniuses like Gerson and others like him?  Why isn't biochemistry of the human body a part of every medical doctor's language?   Why do we have to go "underground" to find another way to treat cancer patients?
