I am retiring at 63 which is a little less that 21 months from now. Our home will be paid off next year and we will be completely debt free. I have two pensions from previous employers and with my social security, I won't have to touch my IRA or Roth. Everything I have read says to try and be debt free before retirement, but then they say if you are going to make a major purchase: downsizing to a smaller home, buying a RV or vacation property, you should do that before you retire as your credit score goes down when your income stops? Has anyone else heard this? I do want to purchase a van size RV; either a Roadtrek N6, Sportsmobile RB11 or a Pleasureway Traverse. The all get good gas mileage and I can drive it instead of my regular car. ANd, they all cost over $80,000 new. that is more that I paid for my house almost 30 years ago. I will have to rethink the RV thing or maybe find one that is used with low mileage. Would love to hear what others are doing to plan for early retirement.
