Leaving the GOP

I have today changed my voter registration from Republican to Libertarian. I can no longer support a Party leadership that is only interested perpetuating the status quo. The disgusting treatment by the RNC establishment against McDaniel in Mississippi was the final straw. I must get around 10 solicitations from GOP related entities each week. i answer them all the same way. I have a sticker that states "Sorry, I only contribute to the Conservative Republican Senatorial fund. If enough of us did this, they might get the message and treat all Republican candidates, even Tea Party types, as valued members of the Party. If and when that happens, I will gladly rejoin the GOP. Boehner and McConnell must go.

Although I will not register or affiliate with any party, my vote always goes Libertarian or TEA party. I live in KY.  Matt Bevin (Tea party) would have been my choice but he lost to McConnell in the primaries and I think that happened because:1? McConnell runs a well oiled campaign and; 2/ Bevin screwed up in a couple of areas which made him look to be misleading at best or a liar at worst.  So when the election comes in Nov. I have two choices: McConnell or the Democrat Grimes. Given those choices, I'll be voting for McConnell. At this point in time it appears to be a close race. Until the end of July Grimes was leading in the polls.  The last poll (I'm aware of) was taken the end of July and McConnell was up 2 points. If McConnell had a stronger lead, I'd probably stay home in November as a small protest on my part and not vote. I hate when my choices are the lesser of two evils. Problem is that's exactly what it boils down to and although I'm certainly no McConnell supporter, he is a far better choice,  than Grimes who is nothing more than a Democrat and/or Obama minion.  At least I can say KY. has one very good Senator, Rand Paul.

Please, please, please don't 'not vote'. Every vote counts.  Like you said, even though you're not a McConnell supporter, he's a far better choice than Grimes.  The best way for evil to flourish is for good people to do nothing. That's one reason the other party is where they are. They stay active. They are constantly registering new voters even on election days and taking them to the polls. It is very important that we vote.  Thank you.

The only real option is to become 'an educated voter" and support INDIVIDUAL candidates with whom you agree! Party affiliation often seems a 'smokescreen' to try and win votes by telling lies!

I agree with voting for a candidate who most closely matches my beliefs regardless of party affiliation but in this particular upcoming Presidential election I feel it is CRITICAL for every non-Democrat vote to be for whoever the Republican candidate is. I shudder to think of America in the hands of any of the Democratic candidates. I PRAY every day that anyone not voting for the Democrat, votes for the Republican. I know what I'm saying and I'm not happy about it but I do think it will be the lesser of two evils.

I have been a Republican since I was first eligible to vote in November 1958. I ran for County Commission in 1966 on the platform of "STOP One Party Waste. GO Sam Smith...," with the goal of being the BEST and asking for a promotion to a state or national level office where i would also make sure the press knew why I sneezed and if I wrote or sponsored a bill that I was the one who did it. I made statewide news as the FIRST candidate in the state to take the Candidates' Oath of either party, the first Tuesday in March. That Sunday night, a daughter my then wife had by my next-door neighbor died of neglect because she could not stand the infection of never having a diaper change unless Daddy did it or big sister — then about 10 — did it. Of course the gossip was, "If Smith caan't make his wife shape up, how's he gonna run the county? That was the cause of the FIRST Republican Party Primary in Florida in 100 years! I lost to a retiree much better qualified than I but who really didn't need a job. On the same Primary Day I lost in Ocala, Florida, my Second Cousin, the late Judge Howard Worth Smith, (D-VA) a staunch Conservative Southern Democrat who had served in the U. S. House since 1933, the last 11, as chairman of the powerful House Rules Committee and a thorn in President Kennedy's liberal side!

I share the frustration this 2016 election. We had one REAL HERO who, after giving up as Presidential candidate after being undercut by a press looking for the loud and the boisterous sales-pitches, said, he did not run because he had wanted to be President because he already had so many awards and honors, but because We, "the people had run a draft campaign to convince him" he COULD WIN and the prospects looked good. He is still the ABSOLUTELY BEST choice for President evrn now, though he may nave o be persuaded to allow himself to be drafted again. I speak of a man eminently qualified from untarnished integrity and wisdom through a lifetime of serving humanity selflessly. A man who, as a boy was class dummi in a Detroit poverty neighborhood school but because of a remarkable young mother whose husband proved to be bigamous with another family, he went to the library and learned to love reading, growing from "dummy" to top student and winning a full scholarship to Yale! Meanwhile, through self-realization of a temper problem, he had a private prayer and Bible study session sand came ut a changed calm-tempered, considerate and tactful diplomatic person — both necessary qualities our Next President MUST have. Read up onthe remarkable achievements of Dr.Benjamin Solomon Carson, then urge your GOP delegate to also research not only his history but all of the last 5 candidates standing and make a list of the qualities our next President MUST HAVE if he is to have any REAL CHANCE of being successful in turning our country back to its greatest years. The  vote for the BEST CHOICE for AMERICA. Clue, it will NOT be the temper-tantrum prone spoiled little rich boy grown-up billionaire!

Dr. Carson has a lifetime historical record of accomplishing the seeming impossible SUCCESSFULLY, winning Presidential medals from two Presidents, Congressional Medal of Honor, Library of Congress LIVING LEGEND status, numerous other national and International Prestigious awards and honors. He is respected and trusted around the world.

We vote candidates into office to do what is best for us, his district or state and the nation. If, after election and taking office, he learns that a popularly advertised law would do the opposite of what it's name would imply and it has been sold to the public as, that legislator would be ill advised to vote for that law just because he was pledged to it before he knew what it REALLY Was! His Constituents would expect him, as their representative in government, to study the issue in detail and vote for what really IS BEST for everyone. This principle SHOULD apply t delegates to the convention as well.

We KNOW Hillary would be a disaster from the "git-go," but with a very visible temper problem and self-centered focus, frankly I would be afraid if I knew Donald Trump had access to the Nuclear War Red Button! Psychologsts describe him as "unstable."  Would we want him as President? What about his attitude toward women less pretty than bathing beauties? Would he insult the head of another nation who happened to be female like he did Carly Fiorina, a fellow Presidential Candidate? Would he launch a nuclear attack against her country? because he was hurt by his insult and lash back at him, causing him to lose his temper.

With the "Dump Trump" movement gaining ground (Thank God!) there is a likelihood that the Convention will be wide open. Actually, Dr. Ben Carson has been named chairman of the Trump VP search team and I hope his diplomacy and tact will cause the team to say he is the man. Then he will be a natural to be upped to the #1 spot.

As to betrayal by the GOP, I rell the phone solicitors very quickly that yes, they are right and Hillary must NEVER become President, but the Party with John Boehner and now Paul Ryan in the House leadership spot and Mitch McConnell set to be the only Republican choice for the Senate from his state, they have BETRAYED Both the REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE and I will donate what I can to individual trusted candidates but NOT to the GOP committees.

Few people are happy about the choices we have been given by circumstances beyond our control. I fault the republican party for staging a bad dream version of a reality TV show. It shows a lack of vision, defunct management, and obtuse leadership.

I agree with dcaus413-you need to vote. It's simple for me, if you're going to express an opinion, you need to vote. I'm in CA, where my vote NEVER counts. But I continue to vote; so should  you.
