My wife got hit by a secret shopper scam. We are both on a fixed income and the $500.00 that they took really hurt us. Please read and be informed,.
We got a letter with a check for $700.00 in it. She called since she always wanted to be a secret shopper in order supplement her income. The man on the phone assured that that she would be hired and assigned her to shop at a local walmart,which she did and filled out a report and mailed it back to California. The check covered her salary and expenses for the purchase and she was instructed to mail $500.00 back to them. My wife did as instructed and deposited the check into her bank account,it was on a weekend and the bank was closed. On Tuesday (the first day that the bank was open) she went and spoke to a bank officer because the check had not cleared. She was then informed that the check was no good and that we owed the bank $500.00. We had to take out a loan from a private loan company at a high rate of interest.
I post this in hopes that you know and don't get burned
I told her that I felt it was a scam, but she called the guy and now she realised that the guy was very convincing and went ahead with the deal
and even went to our local Walmart and shopped and filled out his paper work and mailed it back to them. The local PD and the postal authorities have the case..But we will NEVER getour money back.
Just wanted to warn others so they will not get burned
