Noted in a forgein press the the Presidents daughter and 12 friends, (along with the Secret Service) took to planes to Mexico for Spring Break. Nice to know my tax dollars were used for such a worth cause, instead of supporting Air Traffic Controllers or groups like the Thunderbirds, or the Blue Angles.
Kinda makes me wish I was 13, and my dad was the Pres so I could use American tax dollars correctly...
Hm ... I went to do some web research, fully expecting to learn why this vacation was more than just a waste of taxpayer's dollars. I found a lot of stories about the disappearance of some of the initial US-based news sources about the story and some typical near-mindless ad-hominem attacks on the President and one item of substance: http://www.wnd.com/2012/09/national-secret-what-obama-daughters-vacation-cost/. I'm not totally convinced but more willing to believe it, now. The story from Obama and his supporters is that the stories violated long-standing practice of news organizations to not report on the President's children (which practice I fully accept). In my view, the story now is: 1. was pressure to remove the stories overreach and/ or coverup? 2. cost: who paid the airfare, hotel and other vacation expenses and is it really appropriate for one child to have twenty-five federal agents (Secret Service staff) as entourage -- would that many have been needed for a vacation at, say, Panama Beach, FL?
