A Path To Citizenship?

In all the rhetoric about a “path to citizenship” in immigration reform, such as BO’s statement in his Stupid State of the Union speech…

"Real reform means establishing a responsible pathway to earned citizenship — a path that includes passing a background check, paying taxes and a meaningful penalty, learning English and going to the back of the line behind the folks trying to come here legally”.

…there are a few simple unasked questions:

Why is a “path to citizenship” relevant? The illegals claim that the reason they came here is to work. A Guest Worker program lets them do just that. In fact, the Pew Hispanic Center found that two-thirds of the legal Mexican immigrants choose to not naturalize. Many European countries run successful Guest Worker programs.  In fact, we’ve even done it before, during WWII. So why do some insist the irrelevant “path to citizenship” has to be part of a Guest Worker program?

Maybe because the Demoncrats see that as a voter bonanza? Maybe that’s why Senator Obama voted in 2007 to kill the “pathless” guest-worker program in the bipartisan McCain-Kennedy bill that the Democrats defeated. Maybe that’s why he did nothing about it in his first term despite having promised that he would address it in his first month.

Why is the seemingly tough stance that illegals must go to the back of the line meaningless? Everyone who joins a line, whether for coffee or citizenship, obviously starts at the back of the line. He’s not saying anything more than illegal immigrants won't get to cut in line.

And it’s a long line with long waits to be processed. But, during that long wait, the illegals get to stay, work and travel in our country while those who legally applied have to wait outside the U.S.

Wouldn’t a Guest Worker program exasperate the problem of “anchor babies” under the 14th Amendment? That’s easily solved just like we did it in the 1940’s - the Guest Worker program would not include families. No wives - no babies (or not many). Demoncrats will claim that’s not humanitarian. Hmm, so it’s OK us to ship off our soldier citizens to war in foreign countries without their families…but it’s not fair for foreigners to have to leave their families at home? Hey, they have a choice. Our soldiers don’t. It’s our country. It’s our rules.

I have been studying immigration for over 15 years. Most people do not understand that it effects every part of our lives. I will be posting some articles so you realize the dire implications and the destruction of our country if an amnesty is passed. Your grandchildren will become slaves!

See this post for detailed articles

SteveT: If what you are suggesting is that we change our policy so that anyone from outside the US who wants a guest worker permit can get one easily, once it is established that she or he is neither a criminal nor a terrorist, that seems to me a fair proposal. But I don't think it's that way, today!

SteveT: If they're that clueless of social history (and I don't doubt that many are), wonderful! After a generation or two, this "bonanza" disappears. Given the general inclination of Hispanic-Americans (that's who we're talking about when we talk about "illegal imigrants," right?) to be socially conservative, they can be expected to be more generally inclined toward AMAC than its larger alternative organization. smile

SteveT: No, it isn't fair to the soldiers. But the two situations are hardly comparable -- when families don't go with the soldiers, it's because the soldiers have people trying to kill them with extremely lethal weapons and we don't want the family in the line of fire.

EXPOSING A MASS AMNESTY'S ULTIMATE RESULTS: 100 MILLION IMMIGRANTS
http://www.newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty854.htm

If this amnesty goes through we can kiss our heritage and country goodbye. Did our forefathers die in order for Mexico and Central America to take our country?? How many people can the ship hold before we all suffer??

Too late, America has already been lost! In fact, it's been lost many times. Most recently by North-west Europeans to Southern and Eastern Europeans plus people from other parts of the world. Earlier by the British and Spanish to others from North-west Europe. Before that by the "American Indians" to the British and Spanish. Before that by whomever preceded the invading Asians (who are now known as "American Indians") across the land bridge that is now the Aleutian island chain. Not to mention the huge influx of people from Africa who never legally immigrated and took many of the low-skilled jobs in the Southern part of the US from native-born Americans and "legal" immigrants of European descent. Then there are those darned Jews who came here and took over the medical, banking and legal  professions, including far more than a proportional share of the US Supreme Court.
