Trying to make contact with someone that knows how to protect my parents assets in case they end up needing nursing home care. My in-laws in AZ had a trust that kept there personal funds from being controlled and taken by government. Is this possible in Ohio? Resource?
Thanks, Tom. I was hoping to hear that Ohio has an advocay group that would at least point to which attorney. I know the medicare laws and all the associated regulations vary from state to state. The person they have talked to...a lawyer...seems clueless to me when it comes to aging adults' needs.
Years ago I went to the Senior Center near my home, they recommended that I contact a legal aid service that was VERY reasonable, which I did, and they helped me set up the needed items for a Revocable Trust. You might want to see what the senior centers in your area have to offer.
Yes. My parents created a revocable trust. In 2000, my father died and I helped my mother find a company so she could purchase long term care insurance. She went with an inflation rider, no payments until after 90 days in a facility and a four/five year cap. She enrolled at the age of 70 and paid approx. $5,000 a year. Today my mother has Alzheimers and lives in an assisted living facility and draws on her long term care insurance policy. Money well spent!
