No I am not going to disable your account! I'm glad you presented the problem as well and sorry to hear about the arthritis! I have moderate carpal tunnel in both my hands and it's terrible sometimes but 15 years of Guitar and Web Design does that I suppose...
Anyway, most of us net folks view "ALL CAPS" as shouting in fact as I read this I imagined you to be shouting even though I knew you specified that you weren't. It isn't impolite being you aren't using it for shouting purposes but most of the readers will automatically take it that you are. It's funny my grandfather types in ALL CAPS as well but he isn't shouting in his messages though he is hard of hearing and is usually talking very loud in his regular conversation so maybe he is shouting in txt form by habbit.
Is using caps easier for reading purposes? If so, I would recommend using a larger font size instead of all caps that way you can utilize the dynamic of caps for shouting or emphasis purposes.
I also don't quite understand how using all caps is easier when typing with athritis but if you could elaborate I'm curious about it and would like to find the best solution. I would like to get the opinion of our other users about this too so share your thoughts guys.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
P.S. Just a thought if you type a post in ALL CAPS and then you have a part you want to imply as shouting what do you do?

As a relatively new user, myself (four days), I want to welcome you to the AMAC Forum!
If feasible for you, something that would help those of us who find it hard to read all caps and equate it to "shouting" would be to use all lower case (like c.c. cumings did), instead.
Do not hesitate to ask questions about any of the terms in the guidelines. If you are afraid that something you want to write might violate one of the guidelines, I would suggest that you first ask either here or send a message to someone like Dan (an "AMAC Admin / Moderator") -- you can ask him privately by clicking his name, which will open his AMAC Forum Profile, then clicking the link labeled "Send Message" on the profile page.
Dan, I'm guessing that having to press both the "Shift" key and a letter key is what may be difficult for those with arthritis.
If there is a "shift + letter" issue an alternative way could be to hit "caps lock" for the characters that you want capitalized and the turn off "caps lock" when done. In fact for this entire post anything that is a capital letter used this method and it didn't seem tedious at all.

Would someone give me a brief on "whiteboard" use. I'm familiar with this forum design but this is a feature I am ignorant of.
Also - you mentioned some may use caps to make reading easier for bad eyesight. If there may be someone with that issue:
By holding down the "CTRL" key, lower left of your keypad, and pressing the [+=] key, you can easily "magnify" the display. To undo, or minimize hold down the control key and press the [-_] key. Repeated presses attenuate in either direction. Control and [)0] will return to the default.

Ah, someone sent me a Whiteboard message, so I'm now clued in! A whiteboard "belongs" to each member, so it is accessed at a member profile page (click on a member's name to go to her/ his profile page).
