Has anyone ever wonder why the founders of this great nation, selected these two topics as the first and second.  Why?  They hold such great important.  First the freedom of speech, second the right to bear arms.

Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech; or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Right to keep and bear arms

A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Many people today don’t understand the power that we, the people, hold over our government and our lives with the first amendment.  Our forefathers knew that if this was to be a great nation the people themselves would have to have the right to voice their opinions.  Therefore, the first amendment: the power of the people’s voice is paramount. The second amendment: The right to bear arms, the right to protect one’s person, property, as well as to defend our nation.  If we lose, or if the second amendment is weakened, we will no longer be the strongest nation.  Those who wish that the United States no longer existed, those groups and nations who wish us harm us, will fear us less.  Domestic criminals will ravage this nation, our boarders will be overrun.  We are a nation of laws, and we are because we can defend our way of life and our laws.

Gun control is not about hunting it’s not about keeping guns away from people who should not have them. It’s about power and who has it?

There are those in our own government, people of power, people who believe that America should be ruled by the ruling class.  To lose the second amendment or to have it weakened means an unarmed population who cannot protect itself a nation, a population vulnerable to attack, from any direction.????

My point here is. Once we lose the second amendment, how long before the first amendment disappears?  Without these two amendments, the constitution of the United States comes apart.

Like you I also have a copy of the constitution in my desk drawer. You are correct in everything you said but the majority of the people only want to hear and believe in what the tv has to tell them. This country is turning into a great pasture of sheep, ready and waiting to be led to slaughter.

Here's a quote that I think is as relevent now as it was in 1937. " This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more effective, and the world will follow our lead into the future." Adolph Hitler We all know how that turned out. Yet, it seems our President would like to lead us down the same path.

I believe somehow we must organize a nation wide rally to support our second amendment rights.
We must show politicians in Washington and those at the state and local level that they must support the the constitution whiich they swore to uphold. Special interest groups on the left have overrun the rights of the majority of Americans. It's time to stad up and let your voices be heard. Let the politicians know you had enough.

Ernest I like your Hitler quote.

Unfortunately those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. I am afraid that includes many of us in the US if something isn't done soon.

I started this conversation, but I have to admit that I too would like to get guns out of the hands, of bad guys and the mentally ill. But how do we develop a litmus test to identify the bad guys from the good guy or the person who needs mental Health.
It is my wish that we never again see anyone walk into a school, movie theater or mall and opened fire on people. Violence has become a way of life for some people. We’re not born with it, its bread into us with movies, games, television and how we view the violent world around us. We have lost our Civility, our chance at humanity.
The bad guy, has always been the bad guy they are no longer afraid of the consequences of their action and therefore do not obey the laws of the land. So why would we believe that a new law (a ban on certain weapons) would stop them. We have good laws on the books—we just don’t use them enough to punish the bad guy.
There are some people in government; there are some people in this world who think that making a new law will correct this problem. Any new law which will give license only to the bad guys to own these types of weapons will leave this country defenseless.
Defenders of freedom, freedom loving people should not be disarmed. The constitution was written in the blood of people who had the weapons and the strength to defend their rights. History has proven that no government stands without the support of its people.
