retirement infor for veterans

I am a veteran that was in during wartime.  Someone told me that I could get retirement income from the VA.  I looked it up on the internet and found it to be true.

I was not eligible since my retirement income was greater than income limit.  There are probably a lot of veterans that would eligible.  The person that told me about it was for her

father who was a veteran and was in during wartime.  He was not in the war and you do not have to be for this plan.  He is 85 years old and just found about it in January of this year.

He draws social security and he gets $250 a month from the VA for retirement.

You can apply by filling out VA FORM 21-526, Veteran's Application for Compensation Or Pension.  You can also apply on line through the VONAPP website.  You can get information on

eligibility on some of the websites, by googling the words "VA pension for veterans during wartime".

Hope this helps you veterans out there that need additional retirement money.

I've heard about this, but yes, it is limited to individuals who have very little in the way of assets and income.

I would encourage all veterans to check out eligibility for other VA benefits, as every little bit helps. Health care is a big expense these days, and that is where the VA has helped me the most. BOcare is being forced upon the nation (for now anyway), and health care provided by the VA counts as qualified coverage. Yes, they do limit who they cover, but it won't hurt to see if you qualify with or without wartime service. Basically, they place veterans into one of eight groups, and you can see what group you fall into by visiting the VA website: http://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/  Each group has somewhat different benefits and co-pays, but the co-pays are reasonable for all groups.

If you are already covered by Medicare, you may find the VA system provides you with backup health care if nothing else!
