Interesting. My son-in-law is an independent claims adjuster. It's my understanding that most companies contract the adjusters out, rather than having their own. He covers six states. When he gets back, I will pass on your comment.
I need to put an addendum on this. Since posting, I've found that the large co's such as Prudential and would assume, Traveler's too, have their own adjusters. A daughter in FL had terrible roof damage, the porch torn off, etc. on her house. The damage by the 1st hurricane wasn't settled before the 2nd one did more to it. However it was still liveable. The government never did settle. They eventually moved in some materials and left them in the home. Never came back. It still has not been repaired.

I lost my home and all its contents in hurricane Andrew. Travelers was my insurer. It cost me ten grand in attorney's fees to reach a settlement. I had fourteen (14) claims adjusters, none of which negotiated in good faith. My advice is to proceed with caution if using this company.
True enough jetdrv. There was a lot of loss, pain and suffering for many people as a result of Hurricane Andrew.
I would like to think that after two decades things have changed within the insurance company. I know some of the regulatory items pertaining to insurers here in Florida have. Building codes very much so.
There's a lot more to the story, but I won't waste the bandwidth. One item, however, was living expenses. I was covered. Instead of setting up a temporary office in Dade like State Farm and the other casuality insurers did, they set up in Sunrise in Broward County. I had to drive 30 miles each way to pick up the check. They apparently did everything they could to avoid paying claims. I would not trust them to insure anything I own to this very day. Once burned, twice shy.

BTW, my neighbor, who was insured by State Farm, got a six figure check in less than a month. Andrew hit in August. I finally settled with Travelers in May of '93. They were simply abominable.
