At this point in my life, I find myself having to find some kind of part-time employment. I have a back problem so I can't stand or lift anything heavy. Since this came to be after I started receiving my Social Security, I don't qualify for disability or SSI. All my savings for retirement was used over the last several years trying to keep my house cut all that was to no avail. It is going into foreclosure.
I have applied on a website called sitting.com for pet sitting but haven't heard anything yet. I love animals, so I thought this would be a good way to supplement my income.
1. Learn how to look for work - a church with a Career Ministry and free seminar outlines is at http://www.ssj.org/ministries/ssj-ministries/career-renewal-ministry.html. There may be one in your community. There are also books on working in retirement, one is in the Parachute series. 2. Looking for work is a 'marketing job' and you want to sell yourself as the answer to problems by demonstrating knowledge of a topic. As a pet sitter, you could approach local veterinarians, grooming shops, pet stores for referrals. Develop public speaking skills and solicit speaking opportunities before people with money to hire pet sitters.
Will your local library or grocery store allow you to post a flyer for pet sitting on their community bulletin board? I found a painter posted on my grocery store bulletin board. I wouldn't have known about him otherwise.

Anyone who wants to work needs only to go to the "Eagle Ford Shale" oil field in South Texas. There are signs on the highways reading "Help Wanted-Will Train!" And oil companies usually pay well! And that includes all types of work from clerical, to construction, to roughnecking on the oil rigs.

Have a neighbor that helps her income by being a Notary. Costs her $145.00 for four years. She advertises at laundry mats, senior citizen centers, and her church. SHe is doing about 8-12 Notarys a month, not a lot, but it helps her out.
I am new to this forum, and just read your post today. My friend and I set up shopping accounts for a major manufacturing company. It is a health and wellness company, that has been in business for 27 years. What we enjoy about this is there is no inventory to stock, no deliveries to make, and no financial risk. The company pays very well. Be happy to share the details, and see if it is something that would work for you.
You might like to apply to work at a grocery store as a bagger. In the meantime, do some volunteer work in the local community. I volunteer at my local church with their senior adult ministry. I also volunteer every Wednesday morning at my local chamber of commerce. I answer the phone and greet visitors to our fair city that stop in to our office. I offer to help my neighbors by running errands. Bottom line, keep busy doing something.
