Ask for AMAC discounts

I guess I'll be a test case. I have used AARP discounts in the past while traveling. August 15th I'm off on a driving trip to Canada to visit my daughter, 2000 miles round trip. I'll be showing my AMAC card and asking at motels.

AM looking forward to seeing your results. I asked the place we stayed at in San Diego, they never heard of AMAC, but did give me the "ARRP" discount. We ate at a Denny's., they did not give the AMAC discount, but the supervisor was going to email the headquarters to see if they could start doing so.

I recently emailed AMAC about getting discounts at hotels. We always ask for AMAC discounts at hotels and most don't know about it, to their credit we get the discount anyway. I always state " it is the alternative to AARP". In my email I asked if they (AMAC) can pursue more name recognition or is there something we members can do when checking in.

We are growing daily. Unfortunately there is no way to get name recognition over night but it due time we will be there. When I started working for AMAC there were 60,000 members and now we are over 400,000 if the trend stays the same we will be there sooner then later. Just keep doing what your doing!

CK, I have asked the same thing. Have also asked about getting some way where members in locations can contact eachother, and possibly put together a joint effort to increase the knowledge of AMAC with businesses. Most businesses will give you a discount if you ask for it. I live in a tourist city, and know we get thousands of visitors, and IF we could get businesses to advertise that they give AMAC discounts, more people would be interested in not only the businesses, but AMAC as well.

Dan L, Is there something like a business card on the site that we can print? I'd be happy to leave one with the hotels upon check-in, even speak with a manager. I believe members would be pro-active to build name recognition in there communities and travels. AMAC members are not just members wanting discounts, we are members on a mission.

if any one is interested, there is a river cruise group that caters to older travelers(50 and up) and does not charge single supplements- Call Grand circle Tavel- they specialize in small boats: I went to France last year on a river boat- the groups are small- 25 or so. The cruise, I believe, is reasonable- I went for 10 days for about $3000 including round trip airfare and transsportation to the airport, all meals are, of course, included. The sister company is Vantage, I believe. Take alook at the websites. They will probably take AMAC discounts as well but they usually tack on 3 days free at the beginning or end of the tour(I stayed in NICE for 3 days)You also get $250.00 credit for next cruise, and if enough people go as a group- you get a group discount: Let me know if you like it!

The disaddvantages to me: too many guided tours and,everyone ate at the same time with a limited menu
